Charter Conversations

Charter Conversations are opportunities for Chester Voters to become familiar with the final proposed Charter that the Charter Commission developed and that was approved by the Board of Selectmen. A couple of members of the former Charter Commission will lead the conversation, sharing information on how the Charter was developed and answering your questions.

Charter Conversations are:

  • A chance to learn: what is a Town Charter – why Chester is considering a Charter – what is included in the Proposed Chester Charter
  • An opportunity to have your questions answered directly

The final proposed Charter and the final report of the Chester Charter Commission are available for download (hard copies also available in the Town Clerk’s office) before the Charter Conversations events.

If you are interested in discussing the proposed Chester Charter or have a group of people for a Charter Conversation, please contact us, and we’ll be in touch to schedule. Thank you.

Charter Conversations: Town of Wilton

July 22, 2024

The Town of Wilton is one of the latest communities to add a Town Administrator to its Selectmen/ Town Meeting form of government, also a provision in the proposed Chester Charter.  While Wilton is a very different community than Chester, we can learn about the process used to transition to this form of government should our Town adopt the Charter. Wilton’s new First Selectwoman, Toni Boucher, and Town Administrator Matt Knickerbocker, a state-wide respected municipal governance professional who has served in various communities in Connecticut, shared their experiences.
